Band Camp 2011

I ran across this on Facebook today. Nothing like a “cool” day in July on the asphalt, practicing a half-time show!

Letters from the war

I have combined the volumes here so that I can just add the batches as I scan them. As previously, the latest batch provides some great reading. Seems that Ma Hillhouse was giving Dad a fair ration of scolding for not writing. I doubt she was ever in a war zone so she couldn’t have known that mail isn’t as regular as it was at home in Tampa.

The Bobcats played the Wildcats last night. It was Andy’s second performance with the CHS Band. Next week, they will play before a home crowd when CHS takes on Anderson Co. High School. They get their uniforms so they’ll be in full-form.

Andy is playing his “new-to-him” trigger trombone that was donated to CHS by a band member from the 60′s. He’s proud of it and is doing really WELL!

Built a rain-catcher. Don’t want to bail water again. This box is open at
the bottom so the water coming in the window drops to the French drain then
to the sump and out.

So far, the rate of rain has been manageable. I also installed 100-ft of
solid drain hose to get the water away from the foundation.

Letters Home Volume 1

Letters Home Volume 1

When my father passed away, I was going through paperwork and came across a bundle of letters that my father had written his parents while he was in the Marine Corps. We had never seen these. I am going through them, scanning them in to preserve them. I am posting the first ten here and will post more as I can scan them in. My hope is to compile them all into a book. Enjoy.
